HPV
A virus (human papilloma virus). Some types of HPV cause genital warts, cervical cancer (women), cancer of the anus or sexual organs (men and women), or cancer of the mouth or throat. In the Netherlands, girls aged 12-13 are offered free vaccinations (2 injections) against HPV. The vaccination is best given before they are sexually active. This will protect them against two dangerous types of HPV that cause 70% of cases of cervical cancer.
HPV is a sexually transmitted infection (STI).
